Mensen nemen hun tablet mee op vakantie \u2013 of erger nog \u2013 naar het strand en zelf op de wc. Men ondervindt continu de onweerstaanbare drang om tijdens een conversatie een update op Facebook of Twitter te posten. En de laptop? Die staat altijd in standby-modus.<\/p>\n<p>Internet is een deel van ons leven geworden. We besteden heel veel van onze tijd aan social media, games, nieuwssites en apps. En met mobiel internet kunnen we op elk moment online. De behoefte om \u2018always connected\u2019 te zijn zou er zelfs voor zorgen dat steeds meer mensen te afhankelijk worden van internet en verslaafd raken aan bepaalde toepassingen op internet.<\/p>\n<p>Klinkt herkenbaar? Dan leidt je wellicht aan <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fear_of_missing_out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FOMO<\/a>, het digitale hipstersyndroom \u2018Fear of missing out\u2019. FOMO is het gevoel hebben dat we altijd bereikbaar moeten zijn en niets willen missen van wat er in de wereld gebeurt.<\/p>\n<p>Vandaag is dit gedrag bijna standaard geworden. En hoewel ik mijn smartphone niet meer zou kunnen missen, verlang ik stiekem toch soms naar GSM-loze tijden. Vroeger spraken we gewoon af in de speeltuin en later ons stamcaf\u00e9. Was er geen volk in de discotheek, we konden het niet naar elkaar What\u2019s App\u2019en en maakten er toch een leuke avond van.<\/p>\n<p>Ik denk niet dat ik persoonlijk al in een vergevorderd FOMO-stadium zit. Maar eerlijk is eerlijk: de gevarenzone lonkt. Daarom daag ik iedereen uit vandaag om mee te doen aan \u2018International Unplugging Day\u2019. Een dag waarop technologie wordt gemeden, stekkers worden uitgetrokken en no Wifi-zones worden bezocht. En hoewel we bij Progress Communications (inclusief ondergetekende) allemaal die hard tech en gadget-lovers zijn, juich ik dit initiatief zeker toe. Dus gooi die smartphones en wearables even aan de kant vandaag. Beschouw het misschien als een experiment, maar vooral als een uitdaging. Haal een frisse neus tijdens de lunch, sla een babbel met die collega die je al even niet meer gezien hebt. Maar vooral \u2026 geniet!
